What do you need more of at the moment?

One phone between the two of you — the card says whose turn it is.

About Questions for Your Partner

Questions for your partner that work at six months and at sixteen years are harder to write than they look, because most decks assume a stage. These 15 do not: none of them require shared history, and none of them are too gentle for a long relationship.

How to play Questions for Your Partner

  1. Answer for this week specifically, not for how you generally are.
  2. Answer as you are now rather than as you generally are.
  3. If an answer has changed since last time, say so out loud.
  4. Twenty minutes covers the deck comfortably.

Why couples love this game

The useful questions are about the present rather than the past. What someone needs this month, what they are avoiding, what they want more of — those apply regardless of how long you have been together, and the answers change often enough to be worth asking repeatedly.

Tips to make it more fun

  • Ask about the present. "At the moment" is doing the work in most of these.
  • Repeat the deck every few months — the answers move.
  • Do not treat an answer as permanent.
  • Note anything that surprises you and revisit it.

Frequently asked questions

What questions should I ask my partner?

Ones about the present rather than the past. What someone needs this month changes often enough to be worth asking repeatedly, whereas their childhood does not.

How often should we do this?

Every few months. The whole value is in catching changes while they are still small, which does not need doing weekly.
