How to play 20 Questions for Couples
- Take turns reading. Whoever reads a card answers it second.
- Both of you answer every card — no asking a question you would not answer.
- Count to twenty and stop, even if you are enjoying it.
- One follow-up question per card is allowed. Two is a different game.
- If you want a longer version, the 100 question game is in the same category.
Why couples love this game
Short decks get finished, and finishing matters more than people expect. A hundred-question list gets abandoned at question nine and never reopened; twenty questions gets played to the end, and the ending is where couples usually say the thing they were building up to.
Tips to make it more fun
- Twenty is deliberately short. Stopping while you both still have things to say is the trick.
- Answer second when you read, so your partner is never following your framing.
- It fits neatly into a train journey or the time it takes to finish a bottle of wine.
- Keep the last question for dessert.
- Play the same twenty again in six months and compare.
