About Foreplay Games

Foreplay games work best with a constraint, and this deck has one: nothing escalates until the card says it can. Each of the 30 prompts is a small, timed instruction — thirty seconds of this, three minutes of that, one whispered question — and the rule is that you do not skip ahead. It is a game about pace, which is the thing most couples say they have lost and few do anything about.

How to play Foreplay Games

  1. Both of you have to want to play. Do not talk anyone into this.
  2. Work through the cards in order and set a timer for anything with a duration.
  3. Nothing escalates beyond what the current card says. That is the only rule.
  4. Anyone can pass on any card, no reason required.
  5. Stop when you want to — finishing the deck is not the objective.

Why couples love this game

The complaint is almost never about desire; it is about speed. Once a couple has been together a while, everything becomes efficient, and efficiency is the enemy here. A deck that imposes a timer and forbids escalation does what neither of you will do voluntarily, which is slow the whole thing down until it becomes interesting again.

Tips to make it more fun

  • Actually set the timer. Guessing thirty seconds means twelve seconds.
  • Phones face-down apart from the one running the deck.
  • Talking counts. Several of these cards are entirely conversation.
  • If a card feels silly, say so and laugh — that is fine and it does not break anything.
  • The rule about not escalating is the whole game. Keeping it is what makes it work.

Frequently asked questions

What are good foreplay games for couples?

Ones with a timer and a rule against escalating. The common complaint is pace rather than desire, and a deck that forces you to stay on one thing for two minutes fixes that in a way good intentions do not.

Do we have to do the cards in order?

It works much better in order, because the deck is built to slow down and then build. Skipping ahead turns it back into the thing you were trying to change.

What if one of us wants to stop?

Then you stop. Any card can be passed on without a reason, and finishing the deck is explicitly not the goal.
