About Couples Compatibility Test

A couples compatibility test is only useful if it asks about the things that actually cause friction, which is money, time, family, conflict and how much of each other you want. These 20 questions cover exactly those, you both answer privately, and then you compare and score. A high score is nice. A low score on question 14 is more useful.

How to play Couples Compatibility Test

  1. Both of you write an answer to each question privately, without discussing it.
  2. Compare answers one at a time and score a point for each genuine match.
  3. "Close enough" is not a match. Be strict — the mismatches are the useful output.
  4. Total out of 20 at the end.
  5. Pick the two biggest mismatches and talk about those, not the score.

Why couples love this game

Compatibility is not a personality match — plenty of very similar people are miserable together. What predicts an easy life is agreeing on the operational stuff: how money is handled, how much time apart is normal, whose family gets which holiday, and what happens after an argument. This test asks only about those.

Tips to make it more fun

  • Answer as you actually are, not as the version of you that would score well.
  • Do it separately in different rooms if you are tempted to peek.
  • Retake it in a year — the answers move more than people expect.
  • A score of 12 is normal. Nobody matches on all twenty.
  • The point of the test is question 14 onwards, not the number at the end.

Frequently asked questions

How does the couples compatibility test work?

Both of you answer all 20 questions privately, then compare and score one point per genuine match. The number matters less than which questions you disagreed on — the last seven are the ones worth discussing.

What is a good compatibility score?

Around 12 out of 20 is normal for a settled couple. Nobody matches on everything, and a perfect score usually means one of you answered the way you thought you should rather than the way you actually feel.

Is this a real psychological test?

No — it is a structured conversation, not an assessment. It asks about the operational areas that reliably cause friction in real relationships, but it produces a talking point rather than a diagnosis.
