How to play The Newlywed Game

  1. Partner A leaves the room and answers all 15 questions to a recording.
  2. Partner A returns and Partner B guesses each answer aloud.
  3. Play the recording after each guess. One point per match.
  4. Swap and repeat, then total the scores.

Why couples love this game

The format has survived for decades because it is genuinely funny to watch someone be confidently wrong about their own marriage. Everything else about it — the boards, the printing, the scoring — is optional, and doing it from a phone works just as well.

Tips to make it more fun

  • Record rather than write. The video is the entertainment.
  • Have a third person host so the couple can both play properly.
  • Show the score after every question.
  • It works just as well for couples of twenty years as for newlyweds.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play the newlywed game?

One partner answers every question away from the room while it is recorded. The other guesses each answer aloud in front of everybody, and you play the recording back to score it. Then you swap.

Do you need answer boards?

No. The boards are traditional but a phone recording works better — you get the reaction on video and there is nothing to print or carry.
