About Mystery Scenarios

Mystery scenarios for couples are dilemmas you have to solve together rather than answer individually. Each of these 15 situations has no correct answer, and the rule is that you must reach one decision between you — which turns out to be a much better test of how you make decisions than any quiz.

How to play Mystery Scenarios

  1. Read the scenario out loud.
  2. Discuss until you reach one decision you both agree to.
  3. No agreeing to disagree. You have to land somewhere.
  4. Notice who moved, and talk about that afterwards.

Why couples love this game

You learn more from watching someone negotiate than from hearing their position. Requiring a single joint answer means one of you has to move, and how that happens — who concedes, how quickly, whether anyone is annoyed — is the actual information.

Tips to make it more fun

  • Pay attention to how you got to the answer, not just the answer.
  • If one of you always concedes, that is worth discussing.
  • It is a very good long-drive game.
  • Excellent with another couple, who will disagree with both of you.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play mystery scenarios?

Read the situation and discuss it until you reach a single decision you both agree to. Agreeing to disagree is not allowed — the requirement to land somewhere is what makes the game work.

What do these scenarios reveal?

How you make decisions together rather than what you individually believe. Who moves, how fast, and whether anyone resents it afterwards is far more informative than the answers themselves.
